The Growth Management Act (GMA) requires Yakima County to update its development regulations and comprehensive plan every 8 years. Yakima County current update deadline is June 30, 2017. In addition, to the update of the comprehensive plan, Yakima County must also review and update (if necessary) the Critical Areas Ordinance (CAO). The last major update of the CAO was done in 2007, with the final points of appeal settled in 2013.
The Washington State Department of Commerce provided update guidance to Counties to insure consistency and compliance with state definitions and regulations when updating their CAOs. After careful review, Yakima County has determined that the CAO is substantially compliant with the required changes as outlined by Commerce, and only minor updates were needed. Listed below are update announcements on Planning Commission and Board study sessions or hearings, as well as the draft CAO document and support materials.
